Mmm I guess I'm the only one here who is thinking this guy is dating both because he likes them both. Since this is a new guy for both, just maybe he is dating different women in order to find true love. I hope this sounds normal?

This norm you are thinking of is called cheating. Unless culture is different for OP, to be called a boyfriend or girlfriend in the intimacy sense means a commitment in a monogamous relationship.
