Today, my friend and I were seeing a movie. We ended up sitting next to a man who was continually laughing, clapping, and bouncing up and down on his seat. Extremely annoyed, we turned to him and told him to "shut the fuck up". Turns out he had downs syndrome and ran out of the theater crying. FML

Why would your first course of action be to tell someone to "shut the **** up"? I agree with #3.

84- Most people aren't saying people with DS shouldn't be able to see a movie, most people think if they can't sit QUIETLY during the movie then they shouldn't be there, disruption is disruption whether or not the person can help it. If you can't sit in the movie without disturbing those around you then rent it and watch it at home. The OP payed to see the movie as well, they should be able to do so without having the movie ruined by someone who should probably watching it at home to begin with.

The fact that you yelled at a guy with downs syndrome makes you an insensitive asshole since you should be able to notice. The fact that you told someone to STFU makes you an asshole by itself. Which do you think would actually have a positive effect, yelling at someone or asking them nicely to not be so loud. I mean personally if I was being too loud and you yelled at me to STFU I'd probably throw popcorn at you and laugh. Think before you say stupid shit.

"I am all for equal rights for the developmentally disabled but equal rights mean you have the right to sit down and shut up in a movie like everyone else." I think commenters are more upset how the situation was dealt with. I've been in more than one theater where a parent brings an unruly child to a movie that is not aimed at kids. Telling these kids to STFU puts the parents in defense mode. Usually being polite or contacting the manager is the best route. Besides, none of the other patrons got involved. Why does the OP get to be the theatre police?

82 - I agree completely. Let's completely set aside any sort of mental illness and just look at the fact that the first reaction of this asshole was to yell and curse. Anyody could have run out of that theatre crying and it would have been just as rude. Its gross how few people have morals these days.

#87, i think they did it cos they were sitting next to him. and it's more annoying if noise is coming from right next to you or behind you than if you're a few seats away etc. so it may not have bothered everyone as much.

#76 - "It's unbelievable how society has become so intolerant of people with special needs." Didn't people used to kill them? Yeah, we're SO intolerant by letting them live.
