Today, my friend and I were seeing a movie. We ended up sitting next to a man who was continually laughing, clapping, and bouncing up and down on his seat. Extremely annoyed, we turned to him and told him to "shut the fuck up". Turns out he had downs syndrome and ran out of the theater crying. FML

Why would your first course of action be to tell someone to "shut the **** up"? I agree with #3.

to 70 he doesnt have every right to be there if hes going to be noisy, and bothering everyone around him he has to follow the same rules as everyone else.... if he was going to be there, there should have been a caretaker or someone to make sure he would behave

You're an ignorant asshole. It's unbelievable how society has become so intolerant of people with special needs. They're human beings too who don't know any better. And had you asked politely to begin with, I'm sure they would have stopped. My cousin has Downs Syndrome, and she is the sweetest person in the world. She doesn't understand what's going on all the time, and that some of her behaviors are unacceptable, but the proper way to handle that is NOT to scream at them. All I have to say is karma's a bitch, and you'll get what you have coming to you for being so thoughtless.

#75, of course he should. but he probably didn't realise he was bothering people. plus, the OP said 'man', so he was an adult, who may have been able to take care of himself.

U got rid of a man who disturbed you. How is that a FML? Maybe you should be more polite, but anyway, you got what you wanted :)

to 77 yea...if he got upset and started crying after STFU....i dont think he would be able to drive.... he may not be capable, and also would be able to take all the honking and the noise

#74: You are an idiot. Have you been reading? You really should read up on Downs Syndrome because you come of sounding like an idiot, because you are. The OP should have just asked nicely, or go try to find the person he was there with once you realized he had Downs. The movie will be on DVD so it doesn't even matter, but that karma is going to be a bitch. Officeprat: You really should just shut up. Because you are a bitch, honestly. A **** up? Really you must not know what DS is because you surely act like. Do your research and then just shut up, glue your mouth shut or something maybe you should try and break both your hands because you are one person this world could do without. And to all of those other people saying shit about DS, why don't you guys go jump off the Grand Canyon, lets see if you can survive.

71- My younger brother has DS also. The majority of these comments are ridiculous. OP probably had no idea that the man had DS, but you shouldn't be screaming at anyone in a theater. Ask them politely or go get a manager. If you had asked the man nicely he probably would have listened, people with DS aim to please and he probably didn't even realize what he was doing.

I don't care if the person has downs syndrome or not, you should never talk to someone like that. If someone is disturbing you, you can politely ask them to be quite. Why do so many people lack common manners? Honest to God, what is wrong with you people?

71 - what about the OP's right to enjoy a movie. I am all for equal rights for the developmentally disabled but equal rights mean you have the right to sit down and shut up in a movie like everyone else. If you can't sit in the theater quietly then you shouldn't be there, wait and see the movie when it comes out on DVD and watch it in the privacy of your own home.

I honestly am in shock at how many ignorant people have commented on this. It's disgusting. OP, I'm not sure how you couldn't recognize that the man had downs, but assuming you didn't, you're still a jerk for asking like an asshole. How hard is it to be even somewhat polite? And everyone talking about how people with disabilities shouldn't be allowed to go to the movies, or whatever the **** you idiots are saying...what is wrong with you?? Seriously?? People with disorders, who are way kinder and more intelligent than the ignorant assholes like you giving them shit, have to overcome way more obstacles than you or I, simply because of a disorder that they have no control over. And you're bitching about there being some noise in a movie you're at?? Grow the **** up. Please.
