Today, my friend was showing me pictures of her and her family. I told her to stop at one of the pictures. I started laughing my back off and said that she looked grotesque. She asked me if I was serious, I swore that I was. It was actually a picture of her sister, who died 1 year ago. FML

Today, a relative showed me a picture of her phone. I also saw a picture of her husband, a friend, sleeping. He looked like he was dead to the world. I asked, jokingly, "Why is there a picture of a dead guy on your phone?" Turns out it was her father, who is in the hospital, and dying any day now. FML

Today, I was at a friend's house when his dad told me that he had Photoshopped his face onto a woman's body. I looked at the photo and said it was gross, disgusting, and weird. Later on, my friend told me that the photo was actually a picture of his dad's twin sister. FML

Today, I was sitting in my garden with my younger sister when she told me that she'd found pictures of me from a decade ago. She also told me that I've changed a lot over the years, because back then I was still pretty. My neighbours overheard it and started laughing out loud. FML

Today, my coworker said that she suddenly got the shivers. I jokingly told her that it meant she must be being watched by a dead person and made stupid ghost noises. She then told me it was the anniversary of her dad's death and burst into tears. FML

We don't know what OP's friend's sister died from. For all we know, she could've died in a car accident. Don't go assuming she was "terminally ill" if you don't have all the facts. I'm not defending the OP at all, but you're jumping to conclusions without all of the facts. To the OP, YDI for laughing and calling the picture "grotesque". The fact that you were mocking a picture of someone's dead sibling makes this so much worse. Check who's in the picture next time and think before opening your mouth in the future.

Wow. Not just because her sister's dead because you may not have known that, but you don't tell someone that a family member "looks grotesque". That's just mean.
