Today, my furnace broke down, almost a month after its twenty year warranty expired. It would have been replaced for free. Now I'm going to have to take out a loan to afford the $4,000 replacement. FML

That's why you break those things on purpose.

We've had no heat for 2 years in Virginia & we've survived, pretty comfortably too! You'll live!

Check that old warranty again. Chances are it wasn't to replace the entire thing after 20 years. You would have been more streamed to find out that the warranty wasn't as wonderful as you thought if it broke down a month ago.

Yea I've noticed almost everything new I've gotten with a warranty will break almost immediately after the warranty expires.. Pretty sure it's built in flaws to do this so you have to buy new ones. Business security..

I used to do furnace installs and just did one for a friend of mine for cost of furnace which was $600 plus parts and labor. He ended up paying $900...

Added to my to do list - befriend a furnace installer when I buy a house. ;)

Renew your warranty and then get it replaced. It will cost a lot less...

companys only make things last right after the Warranty expires Cuz they know you can't do shit about it but pay more to get a new one or fix it. I know ****** up world we live in

Warranty or not I wouldn't complain about anything lasting 20 years. I would say you got your money's worth and then some.
