Today, my girlfriend decided to treat me out to dinner and cake for my birthday. My mom felt left out and yelled at my girlfriend in an angry tirade. My girlfriend went home. I'm spending my birthday, alone in my room. FML

Thats what happens when your a mommas boy.

Regardless of how old OP is he needs to deal with the situtation RESPECTFULLY. Momma should not be yelling at anyone for planning a nice evening for her son that does not involve illegal activity. OP, address this behavior NOW or be a slave to it until you attend your mothers funeral...

I'd make her apologize to your gf that was so uncalled for

There are two issues with this FML. The first:"my mom yelled at my girlfriend in an angry tirade"- unquestionably an error on the mom's fault. The second: Apparently, OP wasn't operating entirely on neutral territory, away from detractors- rookie mistake.

I honestly don't blame the girlfriend for leaving. She got yelled at by her boyfriend's mom, which is inappropriate in the first place, and for trying to do something nice for him! She probably felt shut down and unappreciated. I can't say I would have stayed either.

I'm spending my birthday alone this year too (it's on Sunday). I'm used to it; I have absolutely no social life and my only friend can't be there. Also my family has to work. Yay Us. :I
