Today, my girlfriend dumped me because I didn't attend her dog's funeral, and was therefore an insensitive bastard. I couldn't attend because my mum has cancer and I was driving her to a hospital appointment. FML

he never said she was dying just that she has cancer. not all cancer has a high mortality rate plus if they catch it early treatments will cure it. the only cancer that should be dying is you

Agree completely. The post doesn't indicate whether or not OP told the gf he had to take his mum to therapy. She may know the mum has cancer but you can't put your life on hold because of that. If she didn't know why OP said no and she was already upset about her dog, her reaction was a bit much but somewhat understandable. If she knew why OP was busy or if she just didn't give him a chance to say why, she was clearly in the wrong and OP is better off finding a new gf.

ive never even heard of anyone giving their dog a funeral. and then to assume that her dog means more than your mother, whom has cancer, is selfish. you definitely don`t need a girl like that.
