In all honesty, you should have found a date to request off (so you won't have any interruptions on a night that NEEDS to be celebrated). She SHOULD NOT have cheated on you (sorry ;[ ) but respect your other half enough to know 4 years should be celebrated the right way.

And how it's difficult because sometimes you don't get a choice. Remember you chose to be a surgeon, and I'm sure you can ask for ONE night off. Okay for right...

Um... I don't think you get what it means to be a surgeon on call at a hospital. It wouldn't have mattered if they did ask off for the night. If an emergency occurs the hospital is going to have to get a surgeon in asap. So even if it is their night off they can still technically be called in if they are the only person available to do surgery. Such is the life of a doctor.
