Today, my girlfriend told me that she is pregnant. I asked how it could be possible, since she's on birth control. She said she didn't know her antibiotics would interfere with it. She's a pharmacist. FML

Just because she's a pharmacist, doesn't means she's a good one.

Or or or she just wanted to get pregnant?

Congratulations on your little bundle of joy!

OP look at this like a good thing! That baby is your future!

Pharmacist or pharmacist tech? I've had to tell techs about it. I'm not on hormonal bc but every time I get an antibiotic I remind them they need to ask. I've also told several friends in their late 20's and 30's who didn't know. Coworker's root canal baby just turned 5. Congrats!

A pharmacist should absolutely know this. Whether or not they remember to tell their patients is one thing. I've worked at a number of pharmacies as a technician, and while I was at my first store, on a college campus, the pharmacists ALWAYS asked women who were picking up antibiotics if they were taking an oral contraceptive, and warned them that the antibiotic could interfere with it, so use a backup. The number of other pharmacies I've worked at, though, I haven't heard the pharmacists ask their female patients this question. They just tell them whether or not to eat food with it, space out a probiotic, etc. But OP's girlfriend IS a pharmacist, and absolutely should have known to use a backup while on the antibiotic and for up to two weeks after treatment. There's no excuse for this. She had to have known, and this had to have been done on purpose. It sucks for OP, because I'm sure he'll have to pay for child support for her "mistake."

But ALL the bottles come with the sticker that says it may lessen the effectiveness of oral contraceptives and the pamphlet from the maker with drug interaction warnings. A well informed consumer should be reading these things.

Sheesh..I'm only a pharmacy technician and I know that

Ur just as dumb as her...u never heard girls getting pregnant even on birth control? Ur fault for not wearing a condom.

How do you know he wasn't wearing a condom? They're aren't 100% effective. Plus, condoms aren't for everyone- there are many other forms of birth control.

Aren't there some antibiotics that don't interfere?

Birthcontrol alone wont stop pregnancies, you need protection so if you thought it wouldnt happen just because of pharmecueticals alone indeed FYL
