Today, my mom started dipping into my college savings, just so she can continue throwing money away on visiting a medium who claims she can channel the spirit of our recently-deceased family dog. FML

I can understand missing a recently deceased loved one but visiting a medium should be the last thing on her mind. If I were her, I'd spend a bit of cash on a memorial instead of throwing money away continuously to listen to a person talk as if he/she is speaking for the dead. Why are some people so stupid nowadays? Seriously -_-

I truly feel bad for OP's mom. Maybe she has a low iq and the "medium" is taking advantage of that. I know some people like that; and they are so naive, but very kind-hearted. It kills me to see when stupid people like that take advantage of ones who know no better. :(

Maybe she does not have a low IQ. Just some people when they're sad about a loss they want to believe in anything. I've never been to a medium and think they take advantage of people but I guess if I loss someone close to me I might believe in them.

I don't think believing means a low iq all of the time. People reach into anything when grieving. Just like with most mental illness, grieving can cause rational thought to go out the window. Maybe research techniques to help her cope. My dog I just lost was 17. It was hard. She was a huge part if my life so I can see how grieving for a pet can reach those extremes.
