Today, my mom started dipping into my college savings, just so she can continue throwing money away on visiting a medium who claims she can channel the spirit of our recently-deceased family dog. FML

What?...Sounds like mom needs a medium to show her the way to the nearest psych. in town. Who's going to end up paying for the college fund......us, the taxpayers of course.

God, mediums, philosophers... all of them have believers and all of them have evidence to disband their existence. to a person with no direction looking for guidance finds a philosophy that helps make their lives meaningful and makes them strive to be a better person - who's to tell them its not worth it? granted they probably didn't spend much. HOWEVER; mediums that give a one hour session ONE time to HELP someone are more legit compared to this quack who claims to have contact with a late dog. anyone with a REAL mediumistic ability wouldnt exploit it to gain a woman's misguided search as a means for gaining a regular. especially if they knew they were taking from a future OP is lucky to have the potential of having. my mother gets carried away & I have to help her by showing her the situation in context. explain to your mother that shes had the blessing of getting to say good-bye, but that taking advantage of a supposed "constant ability to contact the dog" is selfish and hurting your future.

granted, I don't personally believe in mediums or have ever seen one, and I think they do more harm than good. I guess my point was that there's a thick line between getting closure in a way others might deem unusual and getting addicted to the idea of not having to say good bye. OPs mom has crossed that line and OP should say something about it. I only wanted my novel (I tend to make too long a comment) to offer some insight ans help OP.
