Today, my mother-in-law grounded me because I went to the store in the "dangerous" rain. My husband says that if I don't obey then we won't work out. FML

Leave these people NOW. Your mother-in-law is a control freak, and your husband is either of the same stripe or too pussy to stand up for her. If you don't get the hell away from them, these problems will only get worse.

if you're over 18 it's illegal for anyone to ground you. falls under the category of confinement. i can understand your husband if the two of you are freeloading under her roof. in which case by "it won't work out" means you both get kicked out. so if you're getting a free roof over your head... it might be worth it. not to ignore that this is another case of: "mother in law" = "woman hitler"
