Today, my mother-in-maw informed us that she sold her house and is moving in with us so we'll "take care" of her in old age. She's in perfect health. We've only been married for 4 months. My wife can't stand her for more than 2 weeks at a time, let alone living with us. FML

It is obvious that she is doing this out if evil intentions so maybe try to put her in a nursing home and visit her every week at least.

Yeah it's totally acceptable to say no to that.

Considering that she's your mother in law and your wife (her daughter) can't even stand her for longer than two weeks, why doesn't your wife tell her that she's not moving in?

You know it's serious when her own daughter can stand her.

This is the perfect example of why the word "No," was invented.

She should have asked you if she could move in before selling her house. tell her no. you're all adults and should be respected as such.

"mother-in-maw" XD how does that happen? My mistake, they are pretty close but...

Three words to add to your vocabulary, "No ******* Way"... Learn it, Know it, Live it... Oh, BTW Good Luck

If neither of you are happy then you should kick her out

With all the money she made from the sale of her house...she can now afford to just rent herself a room at the local assisted living center & they can take care of her when she gets to that point in her life...just say NO to "monster-in-law" moving in...you are under no obligation to house her whatsoever (legal or otherwise)

Since you're mother-in-law just sold her house, it sounds like she's got enough money for a hotel room, or appartment
