Today, my mum and I were walking down a road where we met an old neighbour who recently got divorced. Her son who we hadn't seen for about 10 years was with her and he looked very handsome. I said, "oh wow ! your son has grown up so much !" The woman replied, "this is my boyfriend." FML

Oh, that's embarrassing !! Lol But the fact that you said he's attractive probably smoothened it out somewhat :D So don't worry!

Wow, how young is he? I bet it was her son but she just wanted to impress you, cause everyone loves seeing a young man doing an old lady. It's just odd. And #11 it's never assume you make an ass out of you AND ME.

#33 I feel like the same can be said for about 98% of the posts/comments on this site... And OP, why on earth would you assume the guy was her son without any kind of evidence other than him being in her presence?

#11/37 Why shouldn't this person have assumed this was her son? They hadn't seen him in 10 years and the boyfriend looked to be the approximate age the neighbours son would have been. Given the fact that there is a son it made sense in this case to assume he was the son, especially if he appeared young enough. There may have been some family resemblance as well. She just had a divorce and maybe the son came to visit. Nobody's first thought would have been, "My neighbour just got a divorce, this could be her new boy toy and not the son we haven't seen in ten years."
