Today, my neighbor at my apartment building told me water from my sink was leaking into his apartment. He told me to call maintenance to fix it, but they won't help unless he calls. He refuses to, and I can't do my dishes without feeling like an asshole. FML

Today, I woke up to a flooded apartment. Apparently, the upstairs neighbor's bathtub had overflowed and water was pouring through my ceiling. My landlord said he couldn't do anything until the water stopped, so I spent the morning frantically trying to mop up the water while feeling completely helpless. FML

Today, I woke up to a fog. Literally. A pipe burst in my apartment and scalding water was everywhere. To make matters worse, when I called maintenance he told me he'd come by later, hung up on me, and turned his phone off. He did eventually show up, but it was 5 hours later, well after I'd paid a plumber $200. FML

Today, our dishwasher broke. It's my husband's chore to do the dishes, but he refused to hand-wash them, and instead suggested we take them all up to his mother's for her to put in her dishwasher. FML

Today, my sink seemed to be filling up with dirty water. Concerned, I turned on the garbage disposal and plunged away. With no change in the water levels, I called a plumber. He reached in, pulled out the drain plug, and give me his bill while chuckling to himself. FML

If he won't call then offer to wash everyone's dishes until he decides he doesn't want water in his apartment anymore and finally calls. It's his own fault the problem isn't getting fixed.

If he's the one that's having the problem and he's the one that needs to call, then it's on him. I'm sure you gave him a head's up about the fact that he needed to call and if he refuses then you can't do anything about it, and you've done everything you could. You shouldn't change your habits or avoid doing dishes, etc, just because he's being stubborn. If he complains to you again, tell him that you already told him what he needs to do to fix it. To be safe, though, you should make note of the dates that you made calls and notifications.
