There's many reasons this can be an issue. While birth control can fix this kind of issue, if you abruptly stop your birth control it can cause this as well. Also, some can cause it. The depo shot gave me a month long period. Nonetheless if you're uncomfortable with a OBGYN checking you out I still suggest you talk with your doctor, that definitely doesn't sound normal.

That's nothing, I was on it for 2 months took a week break then got back on it for a month.

I recall my period varying from a week to 2 months straight a few years ago. My body reacted horribly to a few BC methods so I was very reluctant to try it again. According to my dr, it was natural for me. Ironically enough, what made my period go back to 3-5 days regularly was sex. At that time, I haven't had sex for almost 3 years!

I hear ya! Get yourself checked out you poor thing. Could be dysfunctional uterine bleeding which you need to get onto early and not sweat through like I have for half my life! :-(
