Today, I was lecturing my high school students on the importance of a good education. I pointed out the janitor in the hall and told them if they didn't stay in school, they'd end up like him. Then one of my students raised her hand and reminded me that the janitor I pointed to was her dad. FML

Today, I got a call from my 8-year-old's 3rd grade teacher. Apparently a question went around class asking, "Why do you think you were put on this Earth?", and my son answered, "My dad says it's because I swam the fastest." FML

I can't believe she said that! It doesn't matter whether or not your parents are super smart. And they could well be brilliant and just never had the right chances in life. My grandfather was brilliant but his family was very poor so he ended up working in the coal mines all his life.

My clarinet teacher from undergrad is one of the most brilliant people I know, and throughout her growing-up years, her parents were both clerks.

That is so rude. I knew a lady who was a bus driver and she was one of the smartest people I have ever met. She may not have been the best in the academics department but she taught me far more than any teacher could ever have done

You'd think teachers would know better than to judge their pupils. They should see that through teaching siblings that have nothing in common :L And people have more opportunities than they used to these days!
