Today, my thirteen-year-old daughter tried to scratch the freckles off of her face. We ended up going to the hospital. FML

Has your daughter ever taken an IQ test? just curious

She kept scratching even though it hurt that bad and did enough damage to get taken to the hospital? She needs help.

I actually scratched off a mole on my stomach thinking it was a scab.. It wasn't until later when I was looking at photos and saw one of me in a bikini and there was a mole on my stomach that I was like, "wait a minute... Didn't I..? Crap." it's healing just fine though!

You might wanna get her a therapist, sounds like self-esteem issues or something..

I also tried to cut the moles off my face amd body when I was 11, OP should really check if the kid is being bullied and reassure her that freckles are beautiful :)

I feel for your daughter, OP. I used to avoid going out into the sun because it made my freckles more prominent. It could be that she is being bullied, but it could also be that she wants a clear complexion since that is what is normally portrayed as beautiful in the media and young women are under a lot of pressure to look good. If she really hates them that much, I recommend a honey and lemon juice mask. But I think the real problem here is all of the messages she's getting telling her she's not pretty enough. Being at peace with your body is very difficult to do as a young girl growing up in America.

No offense, but I think looking into therapy for your kid might be a good idea.

Have you ever considered that she is being bullied?

My mom always used to tell me a story about Pippi Longstocking, who saw a sign that said "Are you suffering from freckles?". She then went into the shop and said "No!". The shopkeeper asked her, why she said no and Pippi said that she didn't suffer from freckles. "But your face is full of them", said the shopkeeper. "Yes, but i don't suffer from them", was Pippi's answer. That little story cheered me up every time :)
