Today, my wife and I had one of the biggest arguments we've ever had, which resulted in her leaving, going to her parents' house and calling me twice, screaming and sobbing. The argument was over a seven dollar bottle of wine. Apparently, she was "saving it for a special occasion." FML

Perhaps she was emotional and this was just the "straw that broke the camels back." Maybe She's been holding some serious anger issues inside for a long time.. like you always leave the toilet seat up and your clothes never make it into the hamper and you're just not the man she thought she married.. so Like any rational women upset and miserable with her life she takes it on you when you least suspect it.. you know like over a cheap bottle of wine.. ;-)

fyl for such a pointless arguement but you also deserve it for continuing the arguement and not slowing your roll to just flippen compromise for the sake of everyones sanity. it takes two to argue and im sure theres more there than a bottle of wine

It was $7!!! And if it was really THAT important, she should have said not to use it or hid it or left a note or SOMETHING so that you knew.

YDI if you believe that it's about a bottle of wine, you got much bigger problems to worry about. If you want to save your relationship get some therapy!

I doubt this is as simple and upfront as it seems. Did the bottle have actual sentimental value for her? Does she have to drive to a specific location to get it? perhaps she told you all this and she's upset you forgot/ignored her wishes. Whatever the case, it's not just about a bottle of wine and saying she's overreacting is jumping to conclusions. For all we know, that $7 bottle was the last gift from her dead mother.

You actually bothered to argue about a seven dollar bottle of wine? YDI. Completely. If she was saving it for something, why didn't you respect her wishes? Way to go, asshole.

Well obv there is more to this FML than you're suggesting. I think it isn't the price of the wine that is the main issue here. She could have brought it 20 years ago for $7 which would make it special. Or it could have been a gift from someone who has died. Or a special kind of wine you can only buy in a certain country. Anyway, you need to sort this out OP..

just cuz it started over the bottle of wine doesn't mean that's how it ended up so really how can you say she overreacted not to mention you don't know what was said on his part.
