Today, my wife was in seemingly never-ending labor. It got so bad, I overheard a nurse in the doorway mutter to a coworker that she hoped my baby would just die or something, so she could finally go take a smoke break. FML

People working in hospitals smoking isn't that uncommon, since it's a very high-stress job. Though putting a craving above a life should be grounds for being fired.

You need to go complain to somebody. My grandmother was a nurse and she was one of the most compassionate people and would never say anything like that. That person needs to be fired. I hope your wife and baby are ok and congrats.
