Today, not long after having had my college volleyball scholarship confirmed, I broke my ankle after stepping on and tripping over a toy my baby sister had left out. No scholarship and no college whatsoever now. FML

im OP.and the break was bad enough that the scholarship was revoked. im not gonna be able to play volleyball for a few years due to ligament damage. im an outside hitter and i wont be able to jump. i could switch to libero but i wouldnt even manage to red shirt. my grades are not high enough for academic entrance

Eye for an eye. Tooth for a tooth. BROKEN ANKLE FOR A BROKEN ANKLE. Siblings. *sigh*

That really sucks! What about academic scholarships?

Can they actually do this? Won't your ankle heal soon anyway? And how can they reject you outright from the school for it? FYL

Your life does suck because such an incident kept you out of college, but you also deserve it. When I consider all the people who worked their arse off (Myself included) to get into University, knowing that there are thousands of people who have just been let in because they can play sports rather well, is, quite frankly, insulting. Physical ability should not be considered an adequate trade-off for academic ability; Universities are meant to be centres of higher education, not higher sports.

I agree. I've never understood that about the US - and maybe other countries with the same system.

Im fairly certain its only the US that have such a system. Obviously it is a shame the OP broke his ankle but if he wants to get into collage then he should work for it like the people who go to collage to study worthwhile subjects.

Sorry to hear that, OP. That's a definite FYL.

didnt anyone ever tell you to have a back up plan

That sucks. Try an academic scholarship.

Well maybe this is a chance to study something worthwhile that will get you a job. Is all fair and well saying you can hit a ball onto the other side of a net but I don't think an employer would chose you over someone trained and qualified to do a job.
