Today, one of my employees filed a complaint against me. He claims that I "pick on him" and make him do things I "wouldn't do". Apparently, making him do his job and trying to convince him to wear clean clothes that don't smell like garbage is considered a bad thing. FML

OP here to explain further, I'm a manager for a big and tall clothing store and hygiene is covered in the training manual. he was wearing the EXACT Same clothing everyday he worked(multiple days in a row). the stains, wrinkles, abd odor constantly increased. I really don't feel like I was bullying him and I even offered to help purchase him new clothes. he took offense to that as well and went on a rant about how his family is ridiculously wealthy. his work ethic was atrocious, he stopped every

how dare you ask someone to be clean & do what you are paying them to do

I can see him being mad about you saying his clothes smell like garbage, but if they did then you're definitely in the right.

Aww man, I litteraly came here to say that and when I saw your post, while I was waiting for mine to finish validating, I thought 'well crap, somebody was faster'.

Wait about 3 months and don't say anything to him, then fire him. Cite something like lazy work ethic and smelling like rotten garbage.

How dare you for telling him the truth But seriously though people really need to be told this?

Some people are so stupid I'm amazed they survive into adulthood. Your employee sounds like this kind of person.

Maybe you do "pick on him". As an employer, you can get your words across by saying thing TACTFULLY! Personally, my GM speaks to some employees like they're a piece of garbage. Yes, having them do their job is important but barking orders the way he does just seems wrong and unfortunately he feels just in the way he speaks (more like belittling) to them.

I'm a big believer in the "Boss" vs "Leader" roles that management play. I like to think I'm a leader. that means I work with my employees and don't sit in the office barking orders. I don't ask my employees to do anything I don't do on a daily basis myself. I really don't think I was being rude. I even offered to help the guy pay for new clothing.
