Today, one of my employees filed a complaint against me. He claims that I "pick on him" and make him do things I "wouldn't do". Apparently, making him do his job and trying to convince him to wear clean clothes that don't smell like garbage is considered a bad thing. FML

OP here to explain further, I'm a manager for a big and tall clothing store and hygiene is covered in the training manual. he was wearing the EXACT Same clothing everyday he worked(multiple days in a row). the stains, wrinkles, abd odor constantly increased. I really don't feel like I was bullying him and I even offered to help purchase him new clothes. he took offense to that as well and went on a rant about how his family is ridiculously wealthy. his work ethic was atrocious, he stopped every

It's better to stay out of certain situations then put up with the stupidity of Most people

Ugh, this makes me sad to live in Kansas. Which part are you from, OP? And I agree, give this guy a written and verbal warning, and if he still doesn't comply, fire his ass.

Free piece of advice: if the idiot turns to you for a reference, state that company policy forbids giving more information than just that you were employed there between certain dates.

You're a much more generous manager than many would have been, OP.

As a long-term jobseeker with higher standards for hygiene, appearance, manners and work ethics than that guy, it sickens me that I miss out on employment opportunities to deadbeats for whom half-arsed would be too generous a compliment.

Indeed. I agree 100%. I've been told that I need to apply online because it provides equality amongst applicants. While I can understand that as far as gender & race, my professional appearance when I put in an application should show SOMETHING about my appearance should I be offered a job as opposed to someone that has ripped, stained, &/or smelly clothes when they apply. Just my personal opinion.

This happened at my work but the genders were reversed. My manager asked her to do similar things and to show up on time and she filed a sexual harassment claim on him. He almost lost his job and reputation and she got a slap on the wrist for a flawed complaint.

I had a similar thing happened to me. but it was with a ex friend she smells like a litter box. she refuses to take pride in her parents and chooses to smile really really bad so I stopped hanging out with her. some people take no pride in how they present themselves.

How does one choose to "smile really, really bad"?

That's horrible :/ some people will do anything....

Was it my stepson? I bet it was my stepson...

You can always fire them with your zatnikatel.

I love it when people are awesome enough to understand my name's reference. thank you :)

You're not a boss @ Walmart are you? I had coworkers there 2 yrs ago that complained about being told to do their jobs when they were caught wandering the store or texting, making phone calls, etc when on duty. Some people think that their jobs are more of a social activity of fun & games for pay rather than actually being responsible hard working adults who bathe more than once a month.
