Today, our new cat, which my mum was hesitant about letting us keep because she believes they're diseased, gave us all ringworm. FML

well that sucks I guess your mom had a reason to be cautious. she may know something but that's what you get for having a dirty pussy around

did you go to the vet and get it shots and stuff?? if not, ydi.

cats get ringworm regardless of the fact they got shots. it's a fungal infection. duh.

That's actually really sad:( poor cat.... oh and I guess I feel bad for you too

guess next time you'll listen to mom huh, or at least get the thing checked out

Learned the lesson long time ago: Just because a pussy looks healthy on the outside, doesn't mean it is! ; )

If a cat has ringworm...you can easily tell. ydi for not getting your new cat checked by a vet...or dewormed for that matter.

But worming treatments don't work on ringworm because it's not a worm..

Yes but if its a younger cat it may have FIV which is treated with a vaccine, FIV is the leading cause of ringworm, it triggers it. That's why i mentioned the vaccines. I know its a fungal infection, its like a rash & if not properly treated it gives a cat hell. Point being if OP would've just taken the cat to the vet when they 1st got it, before letting everyone in their household touch the cat it could've easily been avoided, as a Vet would notice ringworm on a cat right away..since they do a full body exam when you take your pet to get a check up

JSYK you said "dewormed" not "vaccinated".

Thats why cats dogs puppies& kittens have to be dewormed/vaccinated asap. They have all kinds of parasites & viruses living insideof them that can be triggered at anytime for no reason. Such as Parvo/feline leukemia/kennel cough/ FIV

wouldn't do much good, considering ringworm is a fungus, not an actual worm.

ringworm has nothing to do with being dewormed.
