Today, our school had tryouts for chorus. Everybody sang a snippet of the song together until the teacher stopped us, saying it sounded awful. He singled me out and told me to sing alone. After I sang the part, he said, "Son, your gift to God will be silence." FML

#49, you're an imbecile. You can't sue a school staff member for saying "god". That word by itself has nothing to do with religion.

I'm agreeing with the other teachers who've posted here. I'm a future music educator, and I've been through enough auditions to realize that they pretty much suck... even if you do well :-p. But to not expect to have to sing alone, and then be forced to, that would (at least for me) add an entirely new layer of stress and nervousness to an already stressful situation. Bottom line, if the people who hold auditions for professional ensembles don't have the right to tell you you suck, then neither does teach. And he should be ashamed of himself for possibly turning a kid off to music. He's obviously forgotten why he wanted to teach music. Keep trucking, the best musicians aren't necessarily the ones with the most talent, they're the ones who are willing to work the hardest to get where they wanna be.

calling bs on this story nobody is silly enough to believe in god

OP, maybe you misinterpreted the judge. Perhaps he meant you had really nice rests. Remember, the rests are just as important as the notes. ^_^

Choir directors are the biggest dicks in history. I was in choir all through middle and high school, and they just loved to humiliate you. I think they forget that people are there to learn, not so they can live vicariously through you, since they're all old and useless now.

#50, 51, and 54 are RIGHT ON. Ditto what they said: keep singing! That "teacher" is a disgrace to the world of music. #51 said it best: music is for everybody.

Damn that sucks man, being singled out like that and all. And Zooma, as far as you go, I've only recently seen your comments, and "you're" (yes there is an apostrophe between you and the re, which is a shortened and conjoined version of you are) instead of "your" which shows possession, so "you're" in fact, the idiot. Good day.
