Today, over a year on from my parents telling me my dog had died, I went to the shelter to volunteer, and saw my old dog. FML

Where in the world do shelters keep dogs for over a year? I guess it's just where I live but they only have kill shelters here. =

If you are 18 get the dog back. If not recommend your dog to everyone at the pound saying out of all the animals you've worked with there he is the best one in your opinion. You won't be lying. Btw your parents are shit heads.

omg! I can't believe people can do that! here where I live it's like impossible to give the dog away to a shelter "just because I don't want it anymore/I can't take care of it". No. You would have to tie the dog to the fence (without it's dogmark) because otherwise the city would demand you to take care of the dog you registered. And generally, we are huge dog lovers. Over 45 % of families have dogs in Czech republic :)
