well intentioned assholes are horrific to deal with. too many times people have anecdotal evidence about vitamins or a new diet curing mental illnesses. and just no. vitamin D will not cure my bipolar.
While my religion has definitely helped my depression, it hasn't gotten rid of it. Use medication and therapy if you need it, receiving help from medicine or therapy doesn't make you weird. Unfortunately, many just don't understand depression and how it makes people who are, feel. Keep your chin up, even when you don't want to. Oh! One thing that really has helped is having a routine. Find some night classes or gatherings in areas you are interested in, it helps you get out of the house and you could possibly make some friends. Usually, just having some things to do will help some. It may not help you as much as it helped me, but I only used to leave my apartment to go to work. I hope you find something or some things that will work for you.
I hate how you'll be looking for anything helpful and the punchline is "god loves you" or "prayer is the only answer".
You just need to find people to connect with. Otherwise, try and ignore the incessant feeling of not belonging. It can be misleading. Who knows when or where we get to after this life? I don't, but knowing I still have each day to greet me helps. Yeah you run across people who feel better about themselves for belittling others. Sometimes that's the best thing they can do. Please don't let it get to you. The suicide hotline is there, too. A stranger to lend an ear can be better than nothing
The well meaning soul isn't wrong. Praying doesn't mean submission or deliberate belief in something you don't want to believe in. The process of praying makes you focus on an object, thereby working like meditation, which is proven most effective way of curing depression. It also makes you accept fallibility if yourself, and every human is. Thereby, allowing you to accept yourself.
Bigger that. Just because your placebo works for you doesn't mean it's going to do jack shit on another person's medical issues. The mind is incredible and I convinced to heal things can sometimes surpass medications in terms of results. Sometimes. But it's better to assume that you need to keep seeking concrete solutions to your problems, rather than faith.
The people saying OP deserved it have clearly never experienced depression in any capacity. It gets better OP and easier <3
I used to have a friend who worked for a charity and he used to go round telling people the best thing they could do for his charity was pray and I'd sit there and think "surely the best thing to do is help. Donate money or time." But this is the same guy who thought the footballer who had a heartattack was saved by the power of prayer not the doctors who worked tirelessly to save him. I'm not a religious person but if I were I would think that all these earthly things are Gods answers to our prayers. Mediction, people, knowledge etc. Prayer may help but if it doesn't work FOR YOU then it doesn't work. If it does then it does. Find the thing that's right for you. The mind and its problems are complicated but in my view no matter what it is if its working for you and not hurting anyone then keep on doing it!
it's all in your mind nobody can help you but yourself
Well you got one thing right--it is, literally, in your mind. Just like how crohn's is literally in your gut. But how well could you treat THAT without doctors, I wonder?
It -is- all in your mind. Almost like it's a -mental- illness. Just like skin cancer is all in your skin and intestinal parasites are all in your intestines. My goodness! Imagine that, not all ills are universal! They can impact specific areas!

I'm religious and even I think people get a bit too crazy about God being the only answer, don't worry OP, there are people out there who will and want to help you!
That's when you pray them away...
