Well, are you both just 1st cousins, or cousins in law or step-cousins? I mean, that might be an important influence in your decision. And I'm not sure, and therefore I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain it's legal to marry your cousin in quite a few places. Also, by the time you've got to cousins, your DNA has enough differences for no strange mutations to occur. I mean, if your family had a long history if marrying cousins you'd see some weird effects, but it has to be an extended history, once wouldn't be a problem. But then again, it'd be whether or not you found it weird to continue your relationship.
The USA is one of the few countries in the world that restricts first cousin marriage, and even then, it's a state-by-state thing. In California, where the OP is from, first-cousin marriage has no restriction, so there is legally not even close to a problem if they're "long distance cousins". I guess the biggest issue here would be the weirdness factor, but if they had to start making phone calls to figure it out, I guess it's less of a problem. I can certainly see how it would be easy for this to happen if OP and their BF were both from the same small town, or a relatively small ethnic group.
That's what happens when you date in small towns. Haha.
Hope you guys weren't dating that long... Even so, that still nasty!!
long distance cousins aren't relates by blood so enjoy her company. this ain't no incest.
mehh, ur in America that ***** normal :)
Since no one has said it yet, I will be the first. Wincest?
a lot of this depends on if it is by blood or not. if by blood kinda eww. if not, could feel awkward n u could get some adverse reactions from ppl, but do-able. if it makes u feel better, my boyfriends father divorced my boyfriends mother and married my boyfriends mothers mother. so his dad married his grandma. his uncles are all his step brothers too. then his mother married his uncles boyfriends brother. so his step dad and his uncles boyfriend are brothers. I'm sure ur totally lost on this family tree by now, sorry, it's complicated. nothing by blood though

Keep it in the family I suppose.
It sounds like you're not related by blood, so I don't see it as that big a deal. From what it seems, one of your parent's sisters married a man whose sibling is your boyfriend's mom or dad. Bizarre situation, but if that's the case, it's hardly incestual.
