Today, teachers were pulling students out of class to announce valedictorian, salutatorian, and other awards for graduation. I got pulled out of class by one of them, and I got a little excited since I wasn't expecting an award. It was to tell me that my sister was staying after school. FML

For those of you thinking my grades must be awful, I have straight As and am a top student in my class. There are a few people I know above me, which is why I didn't expect to get an award. A girl can hope, right? When I got home, my boyfriend made me my own award so I couldn't be happier.

Awards are overrated anyways. At least, thats what I tell my empty trophy case.

Hey at least you got out of class for a little bit right?

I made the FML post after the event but before my boyfriend made an award xD

You hear that gentlemen, a little handmade award goes a long way.

And this is why we don't expect something for nothing. You didn't think beforehand that you were getting an award, so why set yourself up for that letdown?

I don't understand the American schooling system. Our Valedictorian is usually our head prefect, it doesn't matter what their marks are.

Over here Valedictorian is awarded to the student with the highest GPA, and Salutatorian to the second. Most (all public) schools don't have prefects. The closest to that would be Student Body President, but those are elected each year, and are not directly tied to a single year of students.

Well, there are also class presidents that are elected. Maybe that would be close to a prefect?
