OP, you have to be upfront with her, and should have been from the beginning. Be clear it's a date. Have 'the talk', which really isn't a big deal, it's just communicating to make sure you're both on the same page. Being on the same page in ANY relationship is important. If you think you're dating and you like her, you have to let her know. Don't assume. Think of this way: is it worse to go through this, or to suck it up and say something? And I'm sorry that it got to this point for you, I've been there and it feels awful.
