I can't stand leg puns! tells us more.
Hi guys, OP here. To all of you who say this was a bit ambiguous, I ran out of space, so let me explain in more detail. I had 3 separate USBs, one of which I carry around my neck to prevent this from happening. Everything was clearly labelled and everyone was aware that I was writing a book. As for the USB around my neck, labelled "Confidential - **** off", I took it off for a shower, and when I came back... Poof! Gone. To those of you saying I should move out, I'm 16, so no chance of that happening. And when I said "Trashed" I meant literally gone. Everything downloaded onto a separate hard drive and removed while I was out of the house. As to how she guessed my password, I may never know. But yeah, this is my follow up, hope this clears things up somewhat.

This is why you backup on google drive and usb sticks, for ****'s sake it's 2015.
If you read, Op clearly states main file and BACKUP...
#31, having a backup on the same computer as the main files is basically as dumb as having no backup at all. Put the backup on a thumb drive, upload to google drive/Dropbox/etc, email it to yourself, burn it to a disk. Whatever you have to do to have a backup in a SEPARATE location to the main files.
I sincerely doubt the back up was on the same computer; as you said, that's just stupid. I assumed it was an external harddrive or USB stick.
Why is this downvoted? Even ops explanation says he backed it up to a USB. Obviously people don't know how to read...
Wow...all your flash drive and online back-ups too? Talk about thorough.
if you do not download anything else you can retrieve your stuff back if you have another computer and a way to hook up the hard drive with the deleted book to the other.
What a bitch.
Press control + Z and it will come back
When I wrote my thesis I had a desktop copy, external HD copy, USB copy, iCloud copy etc... FYL totally, but you deserve a little of the eff-upness cause you put all your eggs into one basket
next time try penzu. it's great and password protected. I have all of my novels on it and I've had no issues.
It is not gone! There's always a way to get it back! Be patient OP

Take it to an IT shop, deleted files can be recovered. And what the hell is her problem even if you had been watching ****...
Didn't you tell her you were writing a book?
