Today, there was a power outage at my apartment. I ended up deciding that the power wasn't going to come on any time soon, and that I should go to a hotel for the night. Just after I unpacked at the hotel, my neighbor called to say the power had come back. FML

Today, I'm staying in a hotel. The power went out while I was having a shower. So I waited for it to come back on, until an announcement came over the fire alarm, "Due to generating failure, the power will be off for the rest of the night. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, and have a good night." FML

Today, my power went out due to a huge snow storm. I was in desperate need of candles and flashlights. I had to walk to the store since the roads were closed. I walked 4 miles in the blizzard. When I got home, the power came back on. FML

Today, I knew my wife and kid wouldn't be home until later, and I was excited to play video games and relax. The second I turned my computer on, the power went out. It came back on as my wife was pulling into the driveway. FML

Today, on vacation with family, the power goes off in the middle of the night. I wake up as the A/C starts dripping on my head. No air, wet pillow, can't sleep, but I decide to tough it out until morning rather than wake everyone. In the morning, I discovered my sister had hit the breaker because she couldn't find the light switch. FML

Today, I was driving home from a long day at work fixing people's electronics. When I got home, I got a call from work saying I needed to go back and help a customer with their TV again. When I got there, after an hour of driving, I realized I'd accidentally kicked the power cord out. FML

Some of you people are being very harsh on this poster. If you noticed they said they were in Michigan. It has been getting cold and even snowing in Michigan already. You don't know what supplies they had either. If they could afford the hotel room, why not go. I probably would of held out longer than two hours, but if they have the means to be comfortable, then more power to them.

I understand what you're saying (I mean if you can afford it, why not) but at the same time with that statement, it makes me wonder how some people farther north from myself (I live pretty far up north in Canada) survive with supplies a lot more basic than where we currently reside with no electricity and no constant source of heat. Its not like the OP was stranded in the wilderness with nothing to survive on from the start. :P
