Today, was my first day at my new job in a shop. 10 minutes after my first customer leaves I realize she managed to steal $200 worth of merchandise while she had me getting stuff for her from the back room. FML

Today, I had to help train a new employee at the register. It got busy so I had to take my eyes off her for a few minutes. At that time she managed to let someone walk out with $150 worth of fabric. I couldn't catch the customer. FML

Today, since it's company policy, I had to go to the back of my small store to retrieve an item for a customer, even though I was working by myself. I came back to find that since she couldn't get into the cash register, she found and stole my purse instead. FML

Today, while covering lunch for the self-checkout host, I noticed a customer walking away. I smiled and said, "Have a nice night!" A few minutes later, I saw that she'd left without paying on her machine. I'd smiled and waved at a lady as she stole from me. FML

Today, my manager challenged me to make two big sales at work. Seeing as customers spend a lot of money in our store, I decided the challenge was fairly easy and accepted. She immediately started stealing all of my sales. FML

Today, I caught a grubby, evil-smelling, foul-mouthed woman blatantly shoplifting by stuffing electronics into her coat pockets, so I detained her and called the police. Less than an hour later I was fired. She was the shop owner's mother and “had permission” to just take stuff. FML

Today, at work, I had a customer accuse me of taking the giftcard I had issued her for her return, after spending 15 minutes trying to fix her screwed up transaction. She began to yell, and follow me around the store. Security had to intervene and I had to be locked in an office until she left. FML

this happened to me during my first week of work. some woman stole about 5 pairs of the same jacket, just picked them up and walked out right in front of me and i work at banana republic so each jacket was around $150 -_-

cause if it's not somewhat YDI-worthy or humorous, people think it's not worthy of making it to the front page. I've gotten plenty of FMLs rejected that where not YDI-worthy or funny, yet were about tales of my life that do indeed make it ******.

Yep same thing happened to me. Course I've also had a funny one be rejected. (Course it wasn't funny at the time it happened. It was quite frightening actually, but now two years later I find it quite hilarious.) But yeah unless its really YDI or funny it doesn't make it on, and even some of those dont make it. Sucks, yeah?

Yes she could have. Rule number one while working in retail. NEVER and I mean NEVER go into the back when there are people in the store. Especially if there is only one person working. If they don't have the size on the floor aka front of the store, than you say your out. You don't give people the chance, she clearly did. She should get fired, but this is a fake fml. If she just got hired they wouldn't trust her to manage the store all by herself.
