Today, we buried my mom. I walked past my sister's husband just in time to hear him mutter: "Hope the fire's nice and hot down there, you old hag." I told my sister. She wouldn't believe me and accused me of trying to start drama. FML

Sounds like he'll be seeing that fire. My condolences to you OP, I hope you feel better soon

Oh, it is! They got a real good heating guy who hooked them up with some sick insulation and temperature regulation controls! None of that cheap, cold fire you get in, like, purgatory.

He should go to hell too... I hear it's lovely this time of year! ;)

Nobody likes their mother in law but you still shouldn't say something like this at a funeral.

I love how none of the comments disagreed with her mom going to hell everyone saying he should go to hell too is just implying her mother is going to hell... Whoops. Sorry for your loss op

I think that's the point of what people are saying: even if OP's mother really was as terrible a person as the brother-in-law believes she was, he still shouldn't have said something like that at her funeral.

For some reason it doesn't surprise me that your sister didn't believe you

You are trying to start drama, OP. There was nonother reason to report a toss away line like that. YDI.

It would've started drama. Is it really worth it to bring something like this up while everyone is in mourning, especially since he didn't make an announcement but said it under his breath?

He said that about her mom. Who she just buried. If you can't figure it out, you're probably a sociopath.

Agreed. I'm sure the sister is aware of her husband's feelings towards her mum.

Perhaps I have more common sense than all of you emo little bitches. He doesn't have to like her. Perhaps she deserved what he said. We don't know. My ex mother in law was a worthless ****. But the fact is, it would've made drama and no, it's not worth the fight. Take the high road. Keep your mouth shut. All it did was create more division, which certainly wasn't needed.

That is a very good point, it may not have been civil or nice but he didn't broadcast it to everyone, you overheard him mutter it. He is intitled to think what he wants to and say what he wants to if it's to himself. He should have been quieter though.

Sorry to hear about your mom op, thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this difficult time

That's so hurtful. I'm so sorry he said that and sorry for your loss. Take time to grieve and don't forget to take care of yourself. I hope you have someone in your life that can be supportive during this tough time. Peace.

The fire should be blazing for him when it's his time
