Today, we got a new employee at work. I said hi, and told her that if she needed help figuring out our computer system, then to give me a call. She promptly accused me of sexual harassment and filed a complaint against me. FML

OP here. Some of you noticed it said "woman." Yes, I'm a woman. That's why her complaint made no sense. Glad to report, though, that after a couple days HR got back to me and said I was off the hook, and told her that if she makes any more accusations like that, she'll be fired. She can't even look me in the eye now.

Guess she didn't want your flash-drive in her hard-drive.

Wow what a bitch. I would figure out ways to make her life a living hell.

First time she asks for help file a complaint back. Fyl

Am I the only person who noticed OP is female?

OP here- yes I am! And I have a boyfriend. That's why her complaint was ridiculous.

What is wrong with people (notice, I didn't say "Americans", they're not the only ones) who scream about harassment and moral prejudice, file lawsuits and sue at the drop of a hat? I understand that the lawsuit system can come in useful. I just don't see the point in over-using it.

It became useful to lazy people who learned how to manipulate the system, really.

On the bright side, chances are good that she will be fired as soon as your Human Resources department follows up on the complaint. No company wants an employee who makes false harassment claims.

...Time to apply some unnecessarily restrictive group policies to someone's user account. (if you work in IT) ...Or install a virus and file a sexual harassment complaint against her when she comes to you to get it fixed.

"That's why her complaint made no sense" - women can still sexually harass other women.

Not really sure why having such tension in the office is a good thing, OP. I'm glad you got off the hook, but doesnt being fired for what she legitimately thought was harassment (even if shs was wrong) seem harsh?

Apparently not. Sorry about de- FMLing your FML a bit there. She still sounds like a major nut job.

Being polite these days is so rare, people often mistake it for flirting.

I think she meant it made no sense because she was straight.

Her complaint made no sense because your comments could in no way be construed as a sexual advance unless she thinks the hot dog vendor asking if she wants relish is a sexual come on. Being a woman had little to do with it. Men and women can and do sexually harass people of the same gender.

Glad it got sorted. I hope it would have been the same if you were a man. Your colleague sounds like an attention seeker, drama queen and frankly a bit silly
