Ugh. Poor grandma. When her dementia is at that level, you can't help but pity her. Treat her gently. But keep her safe. She is like a child.
This just happened to my boyfriend's grandma. She has Alzheimer's and her and her husband were in the nursing home, in the same room and everything when her husband died. The day of the funeral, she asked us where he was at and we had to explain everything to her again... she didn't even know she was at her own husband's funeral. She ended up staying for about 10 minutes before returning to the nursing home. So heartbreaking! So sorry for your loss, OP.
How horrible OP, so sorry! *hugs* (also accidentally clicked his, which you don't of course).
How does OP deserve this?
Maybe it's better that she not know. Sorry for your loss
I can't imagine having to do that. It's like going through the loss twice:/
In a severe case as you stated of memory loss that's one thing that has to happen sometimes more than once...this is a heart wrenching kind of situation this explanation is tough to explain but needed to put her to peace...I know this sounds a bit odd but I hope I got my point across...
My family has been in the same situation. My father had to explain to his mother that her daughter (his sister) had passed away as well, at her funeral. Then due to her dementia, he originally had to explain on later dates that she had died when she continued to ask about her. Eventually we stopped telling her because it upset her, and just told her she was happy. It was for the best.

That must have been a horrible thing to tell her.
That's really sad. :(
