Today, while at the Golden Gate Bridge, I spotted a large group of Asians trying to take a picture. Trying to help, I slowly say, "You... want me... take picture?" while using hand motions. The man looks at me and says, "No thanks asshole, I got it," in plain English. FML

Omg, I hate it when people automatically assume that because someone is foreign, they can't speak English also. Last year when I was flying to North Carolina, I needed help trying to find my gate. I went up to a woman who worked at the airport and was like "Excuse me". She turned around, looked at me, then made a gesture to stay. She came back a minute later with an Hispanic guy who worked at the airport also and he began to talk to me in Spanish, asking what I needed help with. The issue with this is that even though I'm Hispanic, I don't know Spanish. So as soon as he started to ramble off in Spanish, I had to interrupt him and say "I'm sorry, I don't speak Spanish. Anyway, do you think you could help me find my gate?".

WOW **** you. its stuff like this that gives americans such a bad rep

#49--ok, what the hell makes a group of Asians standing around together racially discriminatory? You do not know that they actively preclude people of other ethnicities from their group. While I disagree that what the OP did was racist, it IS pretty stupid to assume that a couple of Asian people don't speak English...especially in California. If you've ever gone there you'd know that it's pretty hard not to run into some. So before you call others assholes, think before you type. And to anyone who thinks it's stupid to criticize the OP for stereotyping Asians--he's not stereotyping, he's just assuming that anyone who looks "foreign" (you must be living under a rock to not realize that hey, not everyone in America is white, omg!) can't speak English. It's more that he came to a dumb conclusion. So think about that before accusing us of being hypocrites for stereotyping Americans. It's not even really stereotyping when so many Americans act like this. By the way, I was born and raised in American and I pretty much agree with how actual foreigners view us.

Wow why'd you even make the assumption that they couldn't speak english? Maybe you should LISTEN to them say something first duh Tú no erés inteligente. :p u just got owned by an asian.

wow, no matter how considerate you might have been trying to be, you pretty much are an asshole for assuming. oh well!

asshole.. ive had this happened to me and my family..

isnt like 80 percent of the bay area population asian? you should know better

loll, fail. ;p love it how he said it in plain english though. XD makes me think that they could speak perfect english, lawls

I don't think he was being stupid. He wasn't automatically assuming that all foreigners can't speak English, he figured that foreigners on vacation can't speak English. And when someone is taking pictures of land marks, it's not too far-fetched to think that they are on vacation. Do you perfect the language of the place that you are visiting when you are going on vacation? Maybe talking slower and louder was a bit ignorant, but due to the fact that there was good intent behind it, it wasn't his fault. Especially when the evidence lead him to infer that they were foreigners from a place with a very large language barrier on vacation. Oh, and I don't remember learning in school this rule that you always ask in plain English first. Everyone's acting like this is some sort of instinct and you're stupid for not following it. I have a feeling that some of the people who posted only formulated an opinion after reading the other comments. I hate not only people who simply follow a mob mentality, people who are way too racially-sensitive, and also people who call people assholes because they can't see both sides of the argument.
