Today, while at the Golden Gate Bridge, I spotted a large group of Asians trying to take a picture. Trying to help, I slowly say, "You... want me... take picture?" while using hand motions. The man looks at me and says, "No thanks asshole, I got it," in plain English. FML

This is funny because when I was in China, I was mobbed by people wanting to take my photo. I literally was asked to leave the Water Cube because of the gathering crowd. I joked, "1.3 billion people in China and I think I've had my picture taken with half of them," one guy laughed so I asked, "You know English?" "Yep, I'm from California." All this time I just thought they spoke Spanish there.

wow. Unbelievably ignorant and stupid of you. YDI.

#1, best comment ever. thats so ignorant dude.

This reminds me of a funny story that was a reading comprehension passage in a Finnish textbook I read…so there's this guy, an American, waiting for the bus in Helsinki, and the bus is pretty late and he's worried about the time. There's one other person there waiting for the bus, an elderly man, so he asks in Finnish if the other guy knows what time it is. No response. The American thinks, well, some people in Finland only speak Swedish, so even though his Swedish isn't so good, he figures out how to ask the old man what time it is in Swedish, but again, the man doesn't answer. Then he catches the guy's eye and points to his wrist with questioning gestures, but that doesn't accomplish anything either. Frustrated, our hero starts cursing in English. The old man looks at him contemptuously and says, with a British accent: "A typical young American!"

I'm sorry, but what's wrong with people wanting to speak in their first language? It's more comfortable for some people. And I'm sorry that you can't believe that so maany people can go on a trip together bacause I have to tell you, I've been on trips with 5-6 othe families, and, once a year, an entire school of Asians. If you want to do a good deed, evaluate your situation before you you go off making other people feel bad because they're diferent.
