I don't think it was right for you to get in trouble just be more careful next time it's a sensitive subject.
And you're in New York!
Zero tolerance = zero sense
It's been almost 15 years, people should start mourning PRIVATELY
I think it is a bit hilarious (albeit morbidly so) that people are so sensitive about 9/11 when, in my elementary school, they made every class from pre-K up watch the planes crashing into the towers on repeat. For about three hours, until so many kids had been picked up by parents they made the day a half day. A lot of my age group in the city have emotional issues from it, similar to PTSD.
People, people, everyone needs to calm their ****. The age of OP is not given so we can't tell how old OP is. This day is definitely a tragedy, and I wish for the fallen to rest in peace, and for the ones who lost people they care for to have peace of mind. Though I think schools today are taking things out of proportion from time to time. A kid was suspended for biting a pop tart into the shape of a gun. Back when I went to high school, the principal banned the wearing of pink t-shirts by males because he thought it was "gang-related". And now OP got in trouble for making a paper airplane most likely out of boredom...and not even during class time.
You're from New York, in school, and somehow missed that it's 9/11?
NY consists of more than NYC. My niece is 10, and her school in upstate NY which is a good 4 hours from NYC didn't say anything about it being 9/11.

It's only making fun of 9/11 if OP purposefully crashed the paper planes. If they got upset just for him flying them, I'd say they're being a bit over sensitive. 9/11 was a tragedy, but it doesn't make such simple activities suddenly taboo.
My gosh everybody on top is getting down voted. Regardless of what they say OP, that is an exceedingly stupid thing to get in trouble for. It is a paper airplane. People are getting way to sensitive. I understand that 9/11 affected thousands and thousands of people, but it is a freaking paper airplane.
