Today, while on a crowded public bus, a cute girl asked if she could sit next to me. Problem is, I didn't hear correctly and thought she asked if anyone was sitting next to me. I answered no, causing her to walk off angrily and earning me several disgusted stares from other passengers. FML

You should have follow up with: "I meant: how about we both get off the bus now and I'll take you back to my place, for some hot, steamy...broccoli. And more." That always works for me.

And her beauty was too stunning that shyness overcame you, stopping you from approaching her to tell her you misunderstood her and that she could sit next to you?

I would just say "You can sit there if you wish" in such a situation. Sometimes, I can't understand exactly what they are saying (i.e. "Is anyone sitting there?" vs. "Is it okay if I sit there?", not sure if this is the correct use of i.e.), but it is rather easy to tell that they want to know if they are allowed to sit in said seat.

On the 'i.e'-thing, if you can replace 'i.e.' with 'that is', then you're probably using it correctly. If instead you're just giving an example of something, you should use 'e.g.'. Example: 'In some Asian countries (e.g. China, Japan) rice is a very important dish.' (there are more Asian countries where rice is an important dish) and 'In some Asian countries (i.e. China, Japan) rice is a very important dish.' (Rice is important ONLY in China and Japan). In the first one you're just givin a few examples, in the second one you're clarifying exactly which countries you mean. Another example with 'i.e.': He's a neurologist, i.e. someone who studies the nervous system. I'm not really sure about your post, but I think 'e.g.' might be better suited in this case, though it's a very subtle difference.

Normally when you dont hear someone you ask them to repeat what they said. Just because you thought they said one thing doesn't mean you shouldn't still ask to be sure. Better luck next time.

Lmfao. Cockblocked by yourself lol.

Why would there be an empty seat on a crowded bus? *Philosoraptor face*

Good things to do when answering yes or no is acknowledging the question. If you had said, "no, there isn't anyone sitting next to me.", this wouldn't have happened.

Why do people always mention when the other person is cute? Is it not as bad if you're rude to an ugly girl?
