Today, my dad accused me of being illiterate when I used a word he'd never heard of, saying it sounded like lazy slang, and that it wasn't a real word. He then yelled at me for being a "smartass who's always right" when I read aloud the definition from his 1978 copy of Webster's dictionary. Guess he's not enthused. FML

She did, yes. HE didn't, though. She would be investing in the dictionary for HIM. I would love to get a big, fancy dictionary for Christmas, but then again, I wouldn't get pissy and lash out at my girlfriend if she used a word I haven't heard, before. So… I suppose that would only add even more insult, even if it's only perceived. Not a good idea, after all.

I fear the English Language is a dying form. I used the word 'Crux' in a sentence once and then spent more time explaining that it was a real word, in the dictionary, then I did using it. In the end I had to physically get out a dictionary and show them the word.
