Today, my boyfriend and I got into an argument; however, his new-found passion for hardcore rapping meant that he tried to "diss" me using bad rhymes and ill thought-out putdowns. It was ridiculous, and didn't really make any sense, so I started giggling. He stormed off, grumbling. FML

Today, my dad accused me of being illiterate when I used a word he'd never heard of, saying it sounded like lazy slang, and that it wasn't a real word. He then yelled at me for being a "smartass who's always right" when I read aloud the definition from his 1978 copy of Webster's dictionary. Guess he's not enthused. FML

Today, my girlfriend confronted me for forgetting to take the trash out. At some point during the argument, I tried to calm her down, and the words "I should of" escaped my lips. She spent the next ten minutes calling me stupid and laughing at how my grammar goes to hell when I'm distressed. FML

I fear the English Language is dying. As case in point, I used the word 'Crux' in a sentence before and I spent more time convincing the person I was speaking to that it wasn't made up. In the end I had to physically bring out a dictionary and show them the word. For those of you who don't know: The word means 'The basic, central or critical point or feature.' Vapid: 'Nothing stimulating or challenging.'

Anyone who reads a lot has probably come across "vapid" a number of times. I'm not saying that those people who don't recognize the word are stupid, nonreaders, just saying I've seen it many times in my boring life.

Thanks for the synonyms. I'm sure it was for the benefit of the illiterate masses (ie most of the people who posted a comment here). As a doc, are you not told to explain everything to patients as if you were speaking to an elementary school student? See above for the reason why you do so. Lol.
