Maybe she took it as though you were fishing for compliments.
yeah? even if she was, so what. give the damn compliment, don't be an asshole.
Talking about your struggles and expressing your emotions shouldn't be considered fishing for compliments.
Everyone is beautiful in someone's eyes. Low self-esteem is common and it was insensitive for your mother in-law to say that to you. While I can't be cliche and say "I'm sure you're beautiful" since we don't know what you look like, personality is what really shines the brightest within a group of decent people. Don't be too hard on yourself, we're all our own worst critic
I think your confidence and your body language is more important than your appearance. Shed your insecurities, you'll be very attractive for most people to see.
I liked this quote by Amy Schumer ‘I am a woman with thoughts and questions and shit to say. I say if I’m beautiful. I say if I’m strong. You will not determine my story – I will.’
"You may be right but your son still chose me. It's probably because I eat his ass like a wolverine." *mic drop*
Are we supposed to ignore the fact that you talking about your insecurity was enough to trigger a glitch in the Matrix? Did you say "déjà vu" afterwards before an agent burst through a wall?
I agree I'm not much to look at, but I'm still more beautiful than you. How did you manage to have such a great child? Was it because you're good in the sack or was his dad drunk for the beer goggles?
You and the majority of people. The reality is you're not beautiful, but that's okay, you don't have to be. This idea that everyone is beautiful is crazy and incredibly harmful. I have a mirror, I know what I look like, telling me I'm beautiful when the truth is right there only makes me feel spoken down to like I'm a dunce of a child. Accept what you look like and be happy with it. I have a massive nose, am I sad about it? No. I like it, I tell people how I once kneed myself in the nose and my knee came off second best.
