Proves you are making there right choice, still ydi for expecting him to actually be there for the break up, you should just have emailed him a note, given him a taste of his own medicine, or stood him as a break up at something he wanted to do. Normally I don't recommend it but break up over the phone. He doesn't value your time enough so why value his?

And that is why I did my last break up over the phone. He always cancelled without calling me which really wasted my time.
