By themildthings - This FML is from back in 2010 but it's good stuff - Germany

Today, whilst working as a language assistant in Germany as part of my degree, some 9 year-old German kids asked me to please speak English to them because my German was so shit. FML

Face it, a German degree from the University of Phoenix isn't going to get you far anyways. They should have sent you to a place where you could dazzle them with your mad German skillz, like Antarctica. Penguins love guttural languages.

Don't worry. I am a French Assistant this year and it's not easy at first to speak another language, even if you were good at it before coming to another country. You will improve your skills later, and at least you pupils make efforts to understand your language, mine don't !

Why not Chinese? You have billions of people speaking it nowadays :P

You could try and look at it this way: it's just some stupid kids, who cares what they say? :P

YDI for the following reasons: trying new things, trying to learn something and improve yourself, talking to bratty kids (kids suck in any country!), and trying to learn a new language before mastering your own! You split an infinitive when you said "to please speak English", and splitting infinitives is something you should try to never do! And like #58 said: YDI for saying "whilst", fruitcake.

I sincerely hope you split that infinitive in your last sentence to make a point.

It's a word. I think it's in that book.. Y'know, the one with all the other words.
