By themildthings - This FML is from back in 2010 but it's good stuff - Germany

Today, whilst working as a language assistant in Germany as part of my degree, some 9 year-old German kids asked me to please speak English to them because my German was so shit. FML

Face it, a German degree from the University of Phoenix isn't going to get you far anyways. They should have sent you to a place where you could dazzle them with your mad German skillz, like Antarctica. Penguins love guttural languages.

themildthings? germany? omg MAX!! (i'm gonna look a riiiight fool now if you're not max)

to be fair English is one of the easiest languages to learn.

#73 actually, English is suposedly one of the HARDEST languages to learn for those who weren't raised around it. The kids knew English because it is required to learn in a lot of foreign schools. All of my school's exchange students were required to learn English at an early age.

Nah, english is really one of the easiest. I diddn't learn it until past the forming stage of the brain (which is said to be the time you learn languages with ease) and I think I speak it pretty well, while I was never able to speak french - yet I learned french before I even tried english. English makes lots of stuff easier. Just as an example, you don't have to care about the gender of an object, it's always neuter ("it"), so you don't have to memorize that for every single word.

No, English is definitely one of the hardest. It's so hard because it has so many rules and variations.

every language has many rules and variations. In fact, english probably has the least.

ah, FYL since German is so damn frustrating. I only understood that after taking it in gcses, and then going Germany..

Ugh that's so annoying. I remember in Mexico I was at chichen-iza, and decided to take the tour with the German guide, because my German is slightly better than my English. Was a big mistake tough. The "German" tourguide turned out to be an American that had taken some German classes. No one understood him, and I ended up translating his English to German for the rest of the tour. Also, a bit more on-topic, in general, germans suck at English. Your German must've been truly terrible. Ydi

Wow, get better at speaking German.

That's okay. You're not German.

You should learn a language that doesn't sound like an angry old man, or a butch woman is speaking it, whenever it is spoken
