We need to talk…

Today, I took a look at my 9-year-old daughter's diary, thinking it would be full of cute stuff. Instead, it was full of hateful rants against me and my husband, as well the boys at her school, who she called gay because none of them ever hit on her. It seems I've failed as a parent. FML

Yes OP you have failed as a parent for reading your 9 year old child's diary.

the first thing that came to mind was the movie "orphan" ....

How about you don't invade her privacy and maybe she'll hate you a bit less.

You realize that the hateful words were there before the privacy was violated

Probably because the mother does things like invade her privacy and is so quick to label her a failure at 9. Reading the diary was just symptomatic of that.

She didn't say her daughter was a failure. She said she failed as a parent.

Get her professional help immediately.

You deserve it for going through her private diary but I also would say fyl because she may need some real help.

okay, she deserves a ****** up child, one that might need help, one that hates her parents, one that wants boys to hit on her at the age of 9, because she read a ******* book. a book that might help her in the future.i call bullshit on half the people that comment.

And this is why you don't invade your child's privacy and snoop through their diary.

Luckily, she's only nine, which means there's still time to prevent any more damage, maybe even reverse it.

OP Who the hell do you think you are? You don't read people's diaries, period end of story.

YDI for reading her diary. Maybe that's why she's ranting at you. Try giving her a little room to breathe.

Gripping your pillow tight.

A lot of you guys seem to think that nine is a lot younger than it is; this kid's probably had puberty slam into her like a freight train, and if any of you remember elementary-level sex ed, you'll know that puberty comes with fluctuating hormones and a whole hell of a lot of misguided aggression. She's a kid dealing with extreme emotion and, evidently, parents who don't respect her privacy. Leave her alone and she'll be fine. Welcome to being the parent of a pre-teen.
