Today, I planned a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend. I invited all his friend and made all his favorite food. He was running very late, so I called to ask what was taking so long. His response? He said he was at his house, with the very friends I was standing next to. FML

Today, I threw an elaborate surprise birthday party for my boyfriend of four years. He thought we were going to a quiet dinner but when we arrived, thirty of his friends jumped out and surprised him. Instead of kissing me to thank me, he broke up with me because of how easily I had lied to him. FML

I read your post, believe me. And in that post, you gave your opinion that the only acceptable, non-dump-worthy reason the BF could have would be something along the ring idea mentioned earlier, where he was only lying to you so you wouldn't find out he was doing something super-special for you. Which leads me to believe that you wouldn't accept something like, "well, I felt like staying home," etc. What if he didn't have a verifiable alibi, and you had to take him on his word he wasn't cheating? The simple fact that you automatically assume he was cheating out of the many possible events, (ie, "it's a fair bet that he was out cheating"), to me, indicates low self-esteem and very little trust in your partner.
