I swear to God, modern society is retarded because of street slang and internet.
Sadly it's true
and yet, you used quite a bit of street slang in that comment...
Interesting that you used the offensive term "retarded" to express your anger at street slang.
Yeah street slang and internet... I hate those guys!
if that "someone" is not you, then fhl, not fyl. if you are the teacher, take that ass to a secluded spot and "explain to him/her" (e.g. falcon kick his bald top) that mocking a tragedy is not tolerated in modern society.
Actually it is more than you think
I don't think they were mocking it. Not intentionally anyway. It's probably just something they find difficult to grasp the gravity of and empathise with because they were probably young when it happened. It's just another tragedy. A tragedy still, but if you don't remember it, you'll lump it in with the million other awful historic events rather than be personally affected.
yes. if youre the teacher take them to a secluded spot and beat them. bravo. bravo. youre not much better than the kid who said "nine elevs" judging from that idiotic comment
I bet this person also loves jersey shore. Disrespectful prick
Ha, sounds like something teenage-me would say. Not that I'm indifferent about 9/11, quite the contrary, but I was too young to understand it truely when it happened, and I was too obsessed with my own life when I was a teen, and having a foul mouth got me more popularity points than being respectful and sincere. It might be an unpopular opinion, but you may joke about horrible events. It's how humanity copes with it.
Its called Gallow's Humor and its a legitimate coping mechanism. You find it a lot in First Responders, crisis workers, doctors and nurses, any one that works with tragedy on a daily basis. However, in this kids case, I think he's probably just too young to understand the tragedy and too self-involved to care, like you said. Plus, it appears he prescribes to the perverted abomination that today's youth attempt to pass off as the English language.
I'm so ashamed of the majority of my generation... smh
Not the north one though... We don't want him.
How about the west one?
yall gave us Justin beiber. we owe you something of equal value
39, I was waiting for that one!
I think that Alex Trebek, Alan Alda and Michael J Fox mig... Yeah. Probably not helping Canada's case.
your classmate is totally screwed up...
What does "nine-elevs" mean? To me it seems like it's an abbreviation for 9/11, but then why is everyone so upset about him using that term?
On the 9th of November, 2001, a series of 4 terrorist attacks were launched by the Islamic group Al-Qaeda upon the United States, in New York City and Washington D.C. This was done by 4 passenger airlines been hijacked by terrorists so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. The attacks killed almost 3,000 people and caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage. It was also the deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the USA , with 343 and 72 killed respectively. Considering the amount of tragedy this incident wrought, it is completely understandable that many would be outraged and disgusted by those who act flippant and disregard the day. This is for those who aren't citizens of the US, particularly those who are too young to remember, as it's not really in the school curriculum (E.g. 30, who is from Germany)
It was September. But the rest of it is very well written and informative for those who don't know.
85. in the United States the date is written month first then day. so 9/11 is actually september 11th, not the 9th of november.
Oops... Thanks 95, I live in Australia, so the dates are the other way around. Sorry, I should've checked it properly
@38: I'm from Germany and I always thought using the term "9/11" to refer to the attacks of Septembre 9 2001 sounded pretty disrespectful itself. Using "Nine-Eleves" is obviously just as bad, but if you're going to use "9/11", you might as well use "Nine-Eleves". There's no difference to me.
Guys, don't joke about 9/11! My dad died when that plane hit the tower. At least he died doing what he loved... flying planes.
You made me laugh with that one. Kudos
Hey! Don't make jokes about 9/11! It's plane wrong!
I don't have a stick up my ass, I love to joke in most situations. But honestly I can't believe this comment wasn't buried. It is so insensitive to those who lost everything on 9/11, and even those of us who didn't lose family members but who still remember the tragedy with a sinking heart. It really affected us and jokes like this just seem really distasteful. :(
#112 My comment did get buried, but then some people must've found it funny because they thumbed it up. And for a while, it actually had a couple of up votes, but now it's getting down voted again. I don't mind it, though... I kinda regret making that distasteful joke. And to be honest, I completely agree with you @_@

I know it is an important history lesson and moment for our country... But if I get one more homework assignment asking what I was doing when it happened I will flip. I was 7. I was being a future **** and disgrace to our generation.
Apparently she thinks this is a joke.
