You must be kidding me

By surfernerd6987 - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I received an email from a temp agency trying to hire me. Surprisingly, it was the same job I was just laid off from after two years of great employment. They were trying to hire me at half my original salary. FML

wouldn't that be a bit illegal? firing you just to pay you less? it is kinda indirect but still.

Take your job back, just work half as much and see what you can get away with.

#6 had a kick ass idea that seemed fair logically and in terms of society. >:)

my dad went through shit like that with Danka. just don't deal with it, they'll end up screwing you over in the end. but my guess is that you turned them down anyway.

Hmmm were you laid off or fired for something you did? If you were laid off it should have been because the job role is no longer needed. If they've advertised it straight after then in a lot of countries, employment law should protect you.

Hey who said it was the same company trying to hire him ? it's not his old job back, it's just the same job ("programmer") but in another company, whose salaries are way lower (that does suck). It's not illegal for one company to pay it's employees double than another company, as i recall. I wish i would get hired.. Here in France you need a college diploma to anything. Crap i do think i speak well enough english and spanishto guide some tourists around for minimum salary, but nooo they want diploma, 16 years of hardcode practice is not enough. On the other hand, mi fiancé who has 10 years experience in recruiting and HR cannot get any job, even a clerk job at minimum salary, because he is too "old" or "too many diplomas". So we are stuck. Crap i feel depressed now :(

You have a wrongful Termination suite on your hands. You need to get yourself a lawyer asap, also get them to put the offer in writing.

I would have said, "That's cool with me but I'm going to do half my original work." =]

It depends on the state she's in. If she's in a "work at will" state, its perfectly legal. They can hire her at $350,000/year, get her to do a big project, fire her the morning its finished, and call her in the afternoon, offering her the same job at $10,000/year

"I am sorry but I cannot your offer at half the pay that I was receiving for the exact same job ...... ago""
